This beautiful DIY Fall Floral Centerpiece is easy to make and will be a great addition to any thanksgiving table. I personally made this centerpiece (well, 7 of them to be exact) for my baby shower that was the weekend before Thanksgiving. I loved that with this centerpiece I was able to incorporate the fall season, the color blue (because we’re having a boy), and elegance.
Here are the steps to creating your own beautiful DIY fall floral centerpiece.
First you will need the following items:
- A Pumpkin – this can be real or fake, it’s entirely your choice. I found mine at Michael’s. It was on clearance in the fall section; a beautiful LED ceramic creamy/beige pumpkin, I couldn’t pass it up!
- A Fake Flower Bundle – I also found mine at Michael’s in the fall clearance section.
- Wet Foam – You can get this at any of your local craft stores. I got mine at Walmart.
- Wire Cutters
- Butter Knife
Once you have all of your supplies, you can start your project.
Start by opening your Wet Foam, and cutting out a square. The size will depend on the size of your pumpkin. For mine, I cut about a 4in x 4in square, that was about 1in to 1½ in. thick.
Then I firmly pressed the foam down onto the stem of the pumpkin. While doing this step, make sure you are slowly moving the foam down, sometimes agitating it a little to snuggly fit the pumpkin without your foam falling apart. Once it’s completely pressed down, it’s okay if you see part of the stem of the pumpkin, flowers will cover it!
Now you can start to cut up your flower bundle. Make sure you keep all the flowers on the stem! You need the stem to push into the wet foam. You will however be cutting different size stems depending on where the flower is being placed on the pumpkin. For example, my stems were anywhere between 1in to 2in long.
One you have all your flowers cut, you can start to put the stems inside the wet foam, making sure to try and evenly place the “bigger” flowers around the foam evenly so your bouquet at the end looks full all the way around. Also, keep those wire cutters handy, you may need to cut certain stems down more one you start playing around with the design of your piece.
This step in the process will most likely take the most time. At least it did for me. This is where you need to make sure you have no gaps, the bouquet is full, and everything is placed in an area that looks good to the eye. Also, when inserting the stems into the wet foam you want to be slow and gentle so you don’t break or crack the foam. If the foam breaks or cracks it won’t hold your flowers in snug and can cause the centerpiece to sag or completely fall apart.
Once this step is finally done… your DIY Fall Floral Centerpiece will be complete!
And now you have a stunning fall decoration, perfect for a Thanksgiving table or anywhere around the house! Maybe even your own fall themed baby shower! 😉
